According to literature, the Lantern Festival was held in Nanjing as early as the Southern Dynasty (420A.D.-589A.D.), and is the earliest documented lantern festival in China.
During the Tang (618-907)and Song (960-1279) dynasties, the custom of lighting lanterns on New Year's Day and decorating with lanterns around the Lantern Festival was gradually formed in the Zigong area of #Sichuan.
