The 5th Hanfu Culture Festival (花朝汉服节) will be held at Beijing World Flower Garden from April 4-6, 2024. As North China's largest traditional cultural event, it has attracted nearly 200,000 participants since its 2019 debut. Set against 50,000㎡ floral landscapes, the festival features 100+ cultural activities blending Hanfu elegance with spring blossoms.
Highlights include:
Cultural Performances: Main stage events at Holland Garden Lawn include the Hanfu Dance Competition with 50+ contestants, "Poetry and Wine in Prime Years" poetry contest, and 24 Traditional Instruments Concert recreating ancient melodies. 70 Hanfu enthusiasts will compete for the "Twelve Flower Deities" (十二花神) title through talent shows and etiquette demonstrations.
Immersive Experiences: A Han-style market with 40+ vendors offers traditional crafts, snacks, and ICH interactive workshops like movable-type printing and lantern-making. Daily Hanfu parades featuring 100+ participants in historical costumes create moving tableaus through flower fields.
Ritual Heritage: A Ming-style wedding ceremony displays traditional rites like Hejin (合卺, shared nuptial wine) and Jieying Jiefa (解缨结发, hair-binding ritual). The Kaibi Ceremony (开笔礼, enlightenment ritual) teaches children calligraphy basics using vermilion ink.
Upgraded Activities: The Chinese Heritage Games integrate ancient sports like Cuju (蹴鞠, ancient football) and Touhu (投壶, arrow-throwing) with modern competitive elements. New game (challenge matches) offer prizes for winners.
Visitors can also rent Hanfu, practice Baduanjin (八段锦) exercises, complete garden quests, and enjoy 20,000㎡ greenhouse displays of 1,800 rare plants. The event combines cultural preservation with springtime leisure, inviting participants to experience China's sartorial heritage amidst blooming magnolias, peach blossoms, and plum flowers.
